Summer Maintenance

Don’t let the heat keep your landscape from looking good all summer. A little care and planning can go a long way in keeping your yard attractive through the season.



Here are several tips to help beat the summer heat on your lawn.


  • Water plants thoroughly to promote deep drought- and pest-resistant roots.
  • Avoid light, frequent watering that encourages shallow roots.
  • Spread a 2- to 3-inch layer of shredded leaves, evergreen needles or shredded bark mulch over the soil in garden beds and around trees and shrubs.
  • Mow lawns high. Taller grass produces deeper roots that are more
  • Always mow lawns often enough, so you remove less than one third the total leaf surface. Leave the grass clippings on the lawn. They add nitrogen, organic matter and moisture to the soil.
  • Use a low-nitrogen slow-release fertilizer, to give gardens and lawns a
    nutrient boost.
  • Remove weeds from garden beds and borders as soon as they appear.
  • And don’t forget to take care of yourself while caring for your landscape during the heat of summer. Drink lots of liquid, use sunscreen, and work during the cooler morning and evening hours.

Fertilization & Control

Round # 1 -February/March: 17-5-11 With Atrazine. Weed and Feed. Need to water approximately 10 minutes.

Round # 2 -June/July: 18-5-9 SCU With Telstar Insect Control. Need water in to activate.

Round # 3 -August/September: 5-10-31 FE all chemicals (quick release). Spot treat brown patch with prostar or touché. Two applications

Round # 4 -October/November: 15-5-10 Winterize. Need to be watered  for 5 minutes approximately.
